Career Description

The program of Social Work and Human Development of the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology, through the strengthening of social capital, seeks to carry out promotion, assistance, networking, rehabilitation, empowerment and social innovation actions in order to promote the organized participation of people, groups and communities to improve their quality of life, increase well-being and promote social changes from a multidimensional approach. Intervention strategies are aimed, regardless of the field of work, at ensuring that people acquire capabilities to face new social problems that affect their environment, whether at an individual, group or social level, such as economic globalization, disabilities. , the progressive aging of the population, the existence of new family models, immigration that generates spaces of cultural diversity, the evolution of social policies and the review of protection systems and the financing of social services.

The Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, in addition to having a theoretical approach to social learning, is a transversal profession, whose principles and values are framed in its work performance, whether at the private, governmental, and non-governmental level.

  • In the health sector: in primary care centers, hospitals, home care, prevention.
  • In the education sector: in the teams of schools, psycho-pedagogical offices of care, training, qualification.
  • At the organizational level: Evaluating the level of well-being of the members of the organization, in order to make it as high as possible. Proposing and managing social projects.
  • At the level of social protection and community centers: children's centers, foster homes for people with disabilities, social care for women, where research is a main role of its applicability.
  • In the justice sector: Courts - houses of peace - penitentiary centers. For the protection of the human rights of victims, defendants, and witnesses in judicial processes, especially minors and women.

All applicants must submit the following documentation duly scanned from the original and sent to the promoter to be uploaded to the respective platform: 

  • High school diploma or its equivalent
  • High school credits or grades or their equivalent
  • Identity document, identity card or passport in case of foreigners and residing in Panama during their studies (In case the student is a minor, the juvenile identity card and the identity document of his/her guardian).
  • A current passport-size photo
  • Fill out the admission form in electronic format with the promoter

 If you are a foreigner, the documents such as the High School Diploma or its equivalent, the credits or high school grades or its equivalent must be apostilled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of your respective country. In the event that the country does not have a consulate, it must carry out a procedure before the official authorities that validate it).

Given the profile of the curricular educational model "CYBERHUMANIST" of the university, the student must:

  • The permanence in the University will depend solely and exclusively on the student's motivation, capacity and vision to obtain the chosen academic degree.
  • Maintain a cumulative academic index of not less than one (1.0) on a scale of one to three (1 to 3).
  • In order to pass each subject, the participant must obtain a minimum grade of 71 on a scale of 1 to 100, which is equivalent to item C.
  • Respect and comply with the regulations established by the statutes that regulate the relationship between the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology and the students of the Institution, taking into account the principles and values of the human being.
  • Keep payments up to date.
  • Attend at least 80% of scheduled meetings in face-to-face and semi face-to-face mode. In case of prolonged absence, you must duly present the argumentation that justifies it.
  • For studies under the virtual modality, attendance is regulated by constant interaction in all activities planned on the platform, including synchronous and asynchronous meetings, as well as the development of the student's autonomous work.
  • The student is responsible for the construction of their knowledge, willingness to work and collaborative learning, study in a team on their own, investigate, be self-taught and contribute to self-knowledge and self-motivation.
  • For those students who lose academic continuity (i.e. defer or withdraw) and wish to continue their studies or did not fulfill their degree requirement, they must apply for reinstatement to the current program approved by CTDA and must comply with the validation and homologation regulations.
  • The term of permanence at the University will be in accordance with the number of quarters that make up the academic program.
  • The student in cases of force majeure or fortuitous event must submit to the contingency plans or document that takes its place.

To obtain the title of Technician is required:

  • Take and pass all the subjects of the study plan with a minimum grade of 71 points equivalent to a C.
  • Maintain a cumulative academic index of not less than one (1.0) on a scale of one to three (1 to 3).
  • Take and pass field practice or (specialization seminar), as a degree option.
  • Be in good standing with the institution (financial, academic, and library).

To obtain the Bachelor's degree, the following is required:

  • Take and pass all the subjects of the study plan with a minimum grade of 71 points equivalent to a C.
  • Maintain a cumulative academic index of not less than one (1.0) on a scale of one to three (1 to 3).
  • Complete, support and approve the professional practice report.
  • Take and pass one of the following requirements as a degree option:
    • A knowledge test.
    • Elaborate, support and approve a project (degree work) in their area of knowledge.
    • Specialization subjects.

Be in good standing with the institution (financial, academic, and library).

  • It identifies the processes for the management of human development, articulated with social and institutional policy, in response to the needs and problems of the population.

  • Plan strategies, management, advice, training, training in the public and private spheres in management processes, social and productive improvement, for well-being and social sustainability.
  • Assume administrative, supervisory, execution, evaluation and control functions and activities of processes aimed at introducing changes in the interactive dynamics of social groups.
  • Designs policies at macro and micro levels.
  • Develops policies, plans, programs and/or social projects, through reflective and transformative professional action to contribute to social well-being, safeguarding human rights.
  • Orients his professional action in the promotion of human and socio-environmental development through the improvement of interactions and social processes by working with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities, in different contexts and at different levels; investigative, strategic, tactical and operative - preventive and attention.
  • Executes investigative processes to social reality, social welfare processes and relationships with ethical commitment.
  • Orients its professional action in the development of community activities, in order to achieve a better quality of life in society.
  • Intervenes in the structures of participation of the actors and social sectors, as part of the multiprofessional and interdisciplinary work team, in the satisfaction of social needs, the guarantee of citizen and human rights and the recognition and development of human potentialities and capacities.
  • Designs, implements and evaluates social projects, levels of intervention of Social Case and family; group and community consolidated and with options of intervention models, which seek to adapt to new social requirements. 
  • It contributes to the elevation of the population's living standards through their conscious participation in human development, social well-being, community education, family guidance and the preservation of the environment, respecting popular knowledge, culture, values and the traditions.
  • Develops intervention models to improve the processes inherent to the social worker.
  • Applies scientific research through the use of information and informatics in the solution of scientific-technical problems of socio-cultural, economic and ecological character through research and development projects and service delivery programs.
  • Coordinates with technical teams, management units and institutional and community social services for the purpose of achieving unity of objectives and actions of the actors of achieving unity of objectives and actions of the actors and social sectors.
