Umecit – University in Panama

Managing your health for a healthy community

This is the name of the new project with which UMECIT promotes the well-being and good health of its administrative collaborators.

La misión del proyecto va encaminada a promover y fortalecer el bienestar integral de los líderes de la comunidad a través de la integración transversal del deporte, la salud emocional y el talento humano, buscando proporcionar herramientas y recursos que potencien el desarrollo personal.

This healthy project is part of a University Wellness Subprogram that seeks to create an environment where health care and wellness are a priority. Through the pillars of Sports, Emotional Health and Human Talent, our House of Studies seeks to empower the university community, promoting healthy lifestyles, encouraging personal and academic development, and building a strong community based on respect, collaboration and individual and collective growth.

At the launching of the program, the rector, José Alberto Nieto Rojas, stressed the importance of having a healthy life, where nutrition, exercise and preventive medical check-ups are a constant in our lives.

"That is why we wanted to launch this project that goes hand in hand with wellness, health and nutrition career, therefore, we invite you to voluntarily join the project that seeks to have wellness and quality of life," said the rector.

 

Dr. Claudia Marcela Rueda, General Vice-Rector, encouraged the administrative personnel who attended the event in person and those who were connected from the different sites to exercise to feel better.

"I urge us to encourage us to exercise and I invite you to take advantage of this opportunity that we are offering to all employees," said the Vice-Rector.

Andrea Muñiz, who will lead the project, has a degree in nutrition and dietetics from the Interamerican University of Panama, a Master's degree in Eating Disorders (EDD) and Obesity from the European University of Madrid, a Specialization in Intestinal Microbiota for Nutritionists and several diplomas and certifications in Psychology of Eating, as well as nutrition and, among others.

Likewise, they are part of this team Juan Diego López, physical education technician; first and second division goalkeeper coach; Technical Director of the FC UMECIT Women's Team and Biofit personal trainer, who, along with Javier Alexis Torres, second division coach; technical assistant of first division

and Technical Director of minor categories of FC, will accompany Ms. Muniz.

The project, which is initially aimed at administrative personnel, will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. by requesting an appointment by mail:  nutricion@umecit.edu.pa

The phase of individualized care will be: getting to know the patient, setting goals, making an action plan and projecting into the future.
