Students from UMECIT Santiago hold an environmental campaign at Pixvae Beach.

As part of their academic training, students of the Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Management Administration at the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology (UMECIT), Santiago campus, carried out the practice “Guardians of the Coasts” Last Saturday, June 14, at Pixvae Beach, located in the district of Las Palmas, province of Veraguas.

The event was led by teacher Mailyn Cáceres and carried out by the AA-2024 S AMB STG group, who collected and sorted solid waste found in the coastal area, such as plastics, glass, cans, fabrics, and ropes. This activity not only contributed to the recovery of the natural landscape but also represented a significant effort to preserve marine biodiversity and the livelihoods of local families who depend on the sea.

Prior to the activity, coordination was established with local authorities, with valuable support from the honorable representative of the district, community members, and the Tourist Police, who accompanied the students and offered their support for this important initiative.

Beyond cleaning, the practice had as its main objective promote environmental awareness among participantsThrough this direct experience, students were able to reflect on the problem of marine pollution, understanding its impact on ecosystems and human life, and strengthening their commitment as agents of change.

With activities like this, UMECIT reaffirms its commitment to training professionals with integrity and a commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection.
