In recent days, students from the Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Management Administration from the Santiago headquarters of the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology (UMECIT), they made an educational tour to Agricultural Innovation Institute of Panama (IDIAP), located in El Ejido, province of Los Santos, under the tutelage of Professor Alexis Gomez.
This field experience had the objective of Strengthen academic training through direct contact with technologies and research applied to the agricultural and environmental sectors.
The day began with a warm welcome from the Engineer Arturo Batista, a researcher at IDIAP, who provided an introduction to the various research scenarios developed at this renowned institution. The students then toured the experimental center's facilities, where they learned about projects aimed at generating sustainable agroecological alternatives, essential for food production and the responsible use of natural resources.
One of the highlights was the session led by the Engineer Ezequiel Gaitán, a specialist in vermiculture, who shared his experience in worm farming and explained the production process of humus and biol, key biofertilizers for sustainable and low environmental impact agriculture.
This visit not only enriched the technical knowledge of the students, but also opened spaces for the academic exchange, critical reflection and the appreciation of agroecological research as a tool for rural and environmentally responsible development.
With activities like this, UMECIT reaffirms its commitment to practical, relevant education that addresses the challenges of the environment.
