On the occasion of Earth Day, the Santiago Campus of the Metropolitan University of
Education, Science and Technology (UMECIT) developed on Saturday, April 26, 2025 a
Awareness and clean-up day in the district of Mariato, province of Veraguas, as
part of its commitment to sustainability and environmental education.
Students of the Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Management carried out a campaign
awareness in the district center, where they distributed flyers with messages
alluding to the date. During the tour, they visited businesses, homes, and vehicles along the route
main, promoting small daily actions to take care of the planet.
The day continued at Playa Reina, where participants collected 13 bags of
solid waste - mainly plastics, glass, cans and various waste - in a
deep cleaning of the coastal strip. This activity not only contributed to the improvement of the
natural environment, but also strengthened key skills in students such as decision making
decisions, critical thinking and the identification of real environmental problems.
UMECIT Santiago Headquarters thanks the Municipality of Mariato for its logistical support and the
A. Pachamama Ecological Society for its technical support. This initiative reaffirms
Our institution's commitment to comprehensive training and community action in
favor of the environment.
