Forensic science students participate in a discussion about a decade of open justice in Chiriquí.

On Saturday, September 13th, students from the Bachelor's Degree in Criminology and Forensic Sciences at the David campus, accompanied by Lic. Widad González, Extension Coordinator, participated in the Commemorative Discussion "10 Years of Open Justice in Chiriquí: A Decade of Innovation, Transparency, and Peaceful Conflict Resolution in the Accusatory Criminal Justice System," organized by the Judicial Branch of the province of Chiriquí.

The academic conference brought together judicial system officials, legal professionals, university students, and key players in the legal field, who reflected on the achievements made during the first decade of implementation of the Accusatory Criminal Justice System in Panama.

Among the thematic axes developed, the following stood out:

  • The balance and evolution of the Accusatory Criminal System.

  • Judicial transparency and citizen confidence.

  • Citizens' perspective on the justice system.

  • Alternative conflict resolution solutions.

  • Progress made in restorative justice.

Student participation in these types of spaces provides a valuable opportunity for practical learning and critical reflection, while also allowing them to connect with professionals and stakeholders in the justice system.

At UMECIT, we reaffirm our commitment to the comprehensive training of future professionals in Criminalistics and Forensic Sciences, promoting their active participation in academic and social activities that enrich their professional development and strengthen their social responsibility.
