Umecit – University in Panama

We commemorate Social Worker's Day with the event "Committed to Social Justice through Teaching, Research, and Outreach."

With an emotional academic and community meeting, UMECIT commemorated the Social Worker's Day, reaffirming the profound meaning of this profession as a vocation of service, hope and social transformation.

The day, entitled “Committed to Social Justice through Teaching, Research, and Outreach”, integrated the substantive functions of the university into a space for reflection, learning and engagement:

  • Teaching: with the critical reflections of the Dr. Gressy Zúñiga on the relevance of the social worker's graduation profile.

  • Research: with the contribution of Master José Luis Prieto, who presented “Strategies for action and social change: older adults, adolescents, and homeless women on the Trans-Isthmus highway”.

  • Extension: through the project Hands that Transform, led by the Mgtra. Yelitza González, which involves students, teachers and graduates in community impact actions.

Likewise, the Mgtra. Kenia Batista He highlighted the role of the association as a space for meeting and strengthening the union, while the professor Alberto Flores Guerra offered a workshop on mental hygiene and comprehensive well-being, enriching the human development of the academic community.

The day also included a visit to the stand of FANLYC, reaffirming UMECIT's commitment to solidarity alliances aimed at social welfare.

The event closed with an emotional recognition of teachers and students, reminding us that the Social Work at UMECIT It is projected as a humanistic, critical, and inclusive profession, called to build social justice and generate hope in the face of the challenges of the present and the future.
