Career Description

The Master's Degree in Information Systems Management It is proposed to qualify professionals in the technological and administrative area to lead the transformations of information systems within organizations, as entities that formulate technological projects and develop information system architectures as alternative solutions to business needs. Information systems support the management of processes at all levels, such as operational, tactical and strategic management, and consequently are vital for the solution and analysis of problems and their respective decision making.

The curricular content of the course addresses the most recent changes related to information systems, the increase in complexity and the interdependence between business and information technologies.

In the Master's Degree in Information Systems Management Some organizational factors such as procedures, processes and support systems for the organization are studied, including hardware, networks, software and databases, affect and influence each other reciprocally; aspects that are key in their study in the face of a growing demand for professionals capable of analyzing complex information networks to formulate and develop projects that optimize their functionality.

The specialist in Information Systems Management is trained as a professional capable of integrally coupling management skills with information technologies and information systems and adapting them to the company's strategy and other procedures that are developed in the company.

The Master’s Degree in Information Systems Management is a professional trained as an information systems manager with a broad approach and total knowledge, with skills and abilities in planning, design and management of platforms and information technologies, with the ability to make changes in a company through the integration of creative solutions that manage to create sustainable competitive advantages, which in turn lead to the achievement of the objectives of the organization.

The Specialization and Master’s Degree in Information Systems Management allows the graduate to access labor fields such as:

  • Management of companies in the area of information systems.
  • Research and generation of new scientific knowledge in the field of Systems.
  • Internal or external strategic advisor to organizations in the area of information systems.
  • Independent work in the design of infrastructure, technology, procedures and programs necessary for the optimization of the information produced and incorporated in the organization.
  • Training of human resources according to the training demands of the strategic profiles necessary to guarantee the development and maintenance of the information system.
  • Administration of systems and networks, evaluating the risks and vulnerabilities of the information environment.
  • Consultancy in the analysis of problems, services, opportunities and risks of telecommunications services and IT auditing and IT security.

The Program is aimed at management and related IT professionals who converge in the multidisciplinary management of an information systems management project, either in public or private organizations.

By virtue of this, the requirements for admission to the Specialization in Information Systems Management and the Master’s Degree in Information Systems Management  are the following:

  • Original and copy (collation) of the bachelor's degree diploma or its equivalent (in case of being a foreigner the document must be notarized and/or apostilled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of their respective country.
  • Credits or grades of the bachelor’s degree or its equivalent (in case of being a foreigner, the documents must be notarized and/or apostilled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the respective country).
  • Two photocopies of the identity card or passport in case of foreigners.
  • Certificate of good physical health.
  • Two passport size photos.
  • Application letter
  • Resume.
  • Fill out the application form for admission to the program (electronic format).

The permanence in the University will depend solely and exclusively on the student's motivation, capacity and vision to obtain the chosen academic degree.

The duration of permanence at the University will be a minimum of four (4) quarters. The student must maintain an Academic Index of at least 2.0 and/or a minimum grade of 81 (B) to remain in both the Specialization and the Master's Degree.

Given the characteristics of the University the student will be able to perform in terms of:

  • Study in teams and individually.
  • Develop research skills based on discovery learning.
  • Deepen in the disciplinary knowledge that is of interest to them.
  • Respect and comply with the regulations established by the statutes that regulate the relationship between the Metropolitan University of Education Science and Technology and the students of the Institution.
  • Keep their payments up to date.
  • Attend 80% of the meetings.

In case of prolonged absence, to present a justified argumentation. For studies under the virtual modality, attendance is regulated by constant interaction in all activities planned on the platform, including synchronous and asynchronous meetings, as well as the development of the student's autonomous work.

In order to obtain the Master’s Degree in Information Systems Management,  the following is required:

  • To have satisfactorily passed all the subjects of the study plan.
  • Maintain a cumulative and individual academic index per subject of 2.0.
  • Present an exam or certificate of a second language recognized by UNESCO, updated (five years), not less than 40 hours.
  • Submit an exam or certificate in the use of computer tools, not less than 40 hours.
  • Have completed and supported their professional practice work (degree option).

To obtain the title of Specialist in Information Systems Management, the following is required:

  • To attend and pass the academic contents of the first two (2) quarters, containing 25 credits.
  • Maintain a cumulative academic index of not less than two (2.00) on a scale of three (3.00).
  • Maintain a grade point average equal or higher than 2.0 and have no subjects lower than 81.
  • Present an exam or certificate of a second language recognized by UNESCO, updated (five years), not less than 40 hours.
  • Submit an exam or certificate in the use of computer tools, not less than 40 hours.
  • Elaborate, support and approve the degree work (monograph).
  • Good standing of all treasury fees, (Tuition, monthly fees, degree fees, among others).

KNOWLEDGE (KNOW-HOW)

  •  Know the processes of implementation of the infrastructure, technology, procedures and programs necessary for the optimization of the information produced and incorporated in the organization.
  • Know the characteristics of the process of economic globalization and the transition from an industrial economy to a knowledge economy, its repercussions in the world of work and the concept of the network company.
  • Understand the relationship between the company's corporate strategy and information systems and technologies.
  • Understand the basic concepts of planning and organization of information systems and technologies.
  • Know and understand the problems of contracting different types of technological services.

 ABILITIES AND SKILLS (TO DO)

  •  Manage the processes that produce information for the achievement of an effective organizational management.
  • Contribute to the production of timely and relevant information for a more effective decision making process in the organization.
  • Design the infrastructure, technology, procedures and programs necessary for the optimization of the information produced and incorporated in the organization.
  • Will design the HR training according to the training demands of the strategic profiles necessary to guarantee the development and maintenance of the information system.
  • Will have the decision-making capacity to consider open source software as an alternative in the decisions to be made by an organization to implement information systems needs.
  • Analyze the problems, services, opportunities and risks of telecommunications services and computer auditing.
  • Evaluate modern IT security techniques to manage systems and networks, assessing the risks and vulnerabilities of the IT environment.
  • Evaluate the benefits of implementing an information security management system.
