Course Description
The Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities course belongs to the minimum requirements for basic safety training and instruction for all seafarers, in accordance with Regulation VI/1, Section A-VI/1 and Table A-VI/1-4 of the STCW'78 Convention as amended and its Training Code.
Understanding the basic principles of personal safety is essential for comprehensive training and will enable you to skillfully handle safety-related matters. Knowing what to do, when to do it, and how to do it correctly allows you to respond appropriately to shipboard hazards and work performed on board, thus preventing complications and minimizing the risks of pollution and poor practices in your duties related to the ship.
- Demonstrate the ability to understand the working environment of seafarers and the dangers involved, to contribute to good human relations on board the ship, taking appropriate measures in situations of danger, pollution and emergencies, always ensuring the safety of personnel and the ship, corresponding to Regulation VI/1, Section A-VI/1 and Table A-VI/1-4 of the STCW'78 Convention as amended and its Training Code.
- Professionals in all disciplines related to the activities of the maritime cluster.
University professionals at the bachelor's or higher technical level, in maritime, port, and related fields.
Students and professionals from all areas who wish to expand their knowledge, skills, and abilities in the maritime port sector.
- Valid identification (ID for Panamanians / passport for foreigners).
- Valid medical certificate (the certificate must be issued by a clinic authorized by the Panama Maritime Authority – AMP).
Module 1: Introduction, importance of the course, ship familiarization and emergency procedures.
Hourly intensity: 3.0 hours theory/practical
Module 2: Prevention of marine pollution
Hourly intensity: 4.0 theoretical hours
Module 3: Workplace safety practices
Duration: 4.0 hours theoretical/practical
Module 4: Effective onboard communications
Duration: 3.0 hours of theory/practice
Module 5: Human relations on board the ship
Hourly intensity: 2.5 theoretical hours
Module 6: Measures needed to control fatigue
Hourly intensity: 1.5 theoretical hours
