Career Description

The Bachelor's Degree in Banking and Finance trains the leading human capital that will face the challenges of the growing competitiveness of financial markets, taking into account the business perspective or as a member of a financial institution.

Additionally, professionals will be trained with knowledge in the operation of the entities that make up the banking system and the banking market both nationally and internationally, through which they will be able to know the existing sources of financing and investment so that they can make appropriate decisions in the management and control of banking and financial resources.

A professional in Banking and Finance will be able to perform efficiently in the national or international arena in the following work areas:

  • Banking risk.
  • Credit analyst.
  • Stock Exchange.
  • Bank Teller.
  • Stock Brokers.
  • Corporate Executive.
  • Affiliation/Credit Card Executive.
  • Account Executive.
  • Bank Agency Manager.
  • Credit Manager.
  • Finance Manager.
  • Securities Operations Manager.
  • Financial Operations Manager.
  • Credit Card Manager.
  • International Department Manager.
  • Agency / Branch Manager.
  • Compliance Officer.

All applicants must submit the following documentation duly scanned from the original and sent to the promoter to be uploaded to the respective platform:

  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • High school credits or grades or their equivalent

If you are a foreigner, the above mentioned documents must be apostilled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of your respective country. In the event that the country does not have a consulate, you will have to go through the official authorities to validate it).

  • Identity document, national identity card or passport, in the case of foreigners residing in Panama during their studies. (If the student is a minor, the youth identity card and the identity document of their guardian.)
  • A passport size photo.
  • Fill out the admission form in electronic format with the promoter.

Note:  Students enrolled in the virtual modality whose nationality is different from Panamanian, must present a copy of their personal identity document from their country of origin (ID card or the one that replaces it).

Given the profile of UMECIT's Neo-Cyberhumanist Curricular Educational Model, the student must: 

  • The permanence in the University will depend solely and exclusively on the student's motivation, capacity and vision to obtain the chosen academic degree.
  • In order to pass each subject, the participant must obtain a minimum grade of 71 on a scale of 1 to 100, which is equivalent to item C. 
  • Respect and comply with the regulations established by the statutes that regulate the relationship between the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology and the students of the Institution, taking into account the principles and values of the human being.
  • Keep payments up to date.
  • Attend at least 80% of scheduled meetings in face-to-face and semi face-to-face mode. In case of prolonged absence, you must duly present the argumentation that justifies it. 
  • For studies under the virtual modality, attendance is regulated by constant interaction in all activities planned on the platform, including synchronous and asynchronous meetings, as well as the development of the student's autonomous work.
  • The student is responsible for the construction of their knowledge, willingness to work and collaborative learning, study in a team on their own, investigate, be self-taught and contribute to self-knowledge and self-motivation. 
  • For those students who lose academic continuity (i.e. defer or withdraw) and wish to continue their studies or did not fulfill their degree requirement, they must apply for reinstatement to the current program approved by CTDA and must comply with the validation and homologation regulations.  
  • The term of permanence at the University will be in accordance with the number of quarters that make up the academic program.
  • The student in cases of force majeure or fortuitous event must submit to the contingency plans or document that takes its place. 

To obtain the title of Technician is required:

  • Take and pass all the subjects of the study plan with a minimum grade of 71 points equivalent to a C. 
  • Maintain a cumulative academic index of not less than one (1.0) on a scale of one to three (1 to 3).
  • Take and pass the specialization seminar or diploma.
  • Be at peace and safe with the institution (financial, academic and library).

To obtain the Bachelor's degree, the following is required:

  • Take and pass all the subjects of the study plan with a minimum grade of 71 points equivalent to a C. 
  • Maintain a cumulative academic index of not less than one (1.0) on a scale of one to three (1 to 3).
  • Complete and pass the professional practice corresponding to 160 hours stipulated in the study plan; prepare, defend and approve the practice report.
  • Take a certification exam of a second language recognized by UNESCO, in accordance with internal regulations.
  • Complete and approve one of the following requirements: 
    • A knowledge test.
    • Prepare, support and approve a project (degree work) in their area of knowledge.
    • Postgraduate subjects. 
  • Be in good standing with the institution (financial, academic, and library).

  • Formulate management plans that allow setting the actions to be developed to fulfill the business objectives of each of the units that make up the organization.  
  • Performs operational actions within the banking sector.
  • Performs administrative operations in the area that requires it.
  • It performs functions that characterize universal banking.
  • Use the tools and knowledge acquired in the financial area of banking. 
  • Operate effectively within the framework of labor regulations, where commercial banking is immersed.
  • Contributes to the design and formulation of policies and strategies of Organizations. 
  • Collaborates in the supervision of the process of defining operational objectives, taking into account the company's Global Strategy. 
  • Collaborate in the design and application of Administrative Audits, in order to optimize the use of scarce resources. 
  • Participates in the company's financial analysis and management process.
  • Participate in the preparation of financial forecasts, projected and actual statements and balance sheets. 
  • Collaborates in the formulation of the optimal capital structure. 
  • Know the techniques for financial analysis, financial planning, budgets, forecasts, cash flows, valuation, and evaluation of projects from a financial point of view. 
  • Know and apply the procedures and laws against money laundering. 
  • Identify the different regulatory entities in the financial sector.
  • Learn about and implement different international payment and collection methods, promoting new trade opportunities.
  • Applies knowledge of information and communication technology (ICT) in the banking and finance sector to improve its product offering and service delivery.

  • Design products generated in the analysis of the demand and competition, to technically face their development, advertising, sale and quality control of the service.

  • Contributes to the design and formulation of policies and strategies of Organizations. 
  • Supervise the process of defining operational objectives, taking into account the company's Global Strategy.

  • Analyze and design the different accounting systems applied to the company, to obtain the greatest benefit from the management of accounting and financial information.

  • Design the Formal Organizational Structure of the Institution or department under your charge.
