Volleyball
UMECIT gives you the opportunity to become a player of the Men's and Women's University Volleyball Team. This sport encourages individual and group effort as a fundamental basis for achieving the goals set for the achievement of the expected results.
Our teams participate in university tournaments as well as external professional leagues, which can take place within the country, region or other latitudes.

Meet the coaches
Volleyball

Carlos Vega
Coach of the Panama Headquarters.
Carlos Vega is a former member of the Panamanian national volleyball team, with extensive experience as an athlete and sports coach. He was a member of the national youth team between 2000 and 2002, and later the national senior team from 2000 to 2009. He also played for the Panamanian provincial volleyball team between 2001 and 2016.
During his career he played as a center and opposite hitter, both at the national and provincial levels, participating in high-level competitions and representing the country in multiple international events.
His competitive experience includes Central American, Pan American, NORCECA, World Cup qualifiers, pre-Olympic tournaments, and other significant regional events. Among his most outstanding achievements are first place in the Central American Junior Men's Championship held in San Salvador in 2001, as well as first place in the Central American Senior Men's Championship held in San José, Costa Rica.
After retiring as a national team athlete in 2009 and from provincial teams in 2016, he began his coaching career, joining the coaching staff of the AFAVCER volleyball academy. He is also the founder of the Prospect Volleyball Club and coaches the U18 teams at Metropolitan School of Panama, as well as the U17 and U21 teams in the Panama Central Provincial League.
His approach as a coach is geared towards the comprehensive development of athletes, promoting values, discipline and teamwork through sport, with the goal of forming young people committed to their sporting and personal growth.

Taryn Martinez
Coach of the La Chorrera Headquarters.
Taryn Martínez is a volleyball instructor, referee, and former athlete with extensive experience in the development, organization, and practice of volleyball at the national and international levels. Since 2019, she has been actively involved in the National Volleyball Club and Academy Championship, serving as an instructor at the Alfa & Omega Volleyball Academy.
In the field of refereeing, he has been a referee in high-level events such as the VII National Youth Games Panama 2024 and the National Under-21 Volleyball Championship held in Boquete, Chiriquí.
He has experience in the general coordination of large-scale sporting events, including the VI Latin American Police and Fire Games Panama 2018 and national sports development programs aimed at young people at social risk, in collaboration with the National Police of Panama.
As an athlete, she was a member of the National Volleyball Team, achieving outstanding international and national successes. These included a gold medal at the VI Latin American Police and Fire Games in Panama in 2018, a silver medal at the V Latin American Games held in Guadalajara, Mexico, and multiple medals in Central American and national championships, including national titles in senior volleyball and beach volleyball.
Her comprehensive experience as an athlete, coach, referee, and sports coordinator allows her to bring a complete vision to the development of volleyball, focused on technical training, discipline, and the athletic growth of athletes.
