Our University has been promoting this sport for more than 10 years, which is linking the university community, from the strengthening and enrichment of the values and philosophy of the University. 

Through these disciplines, activities aimed at consolidating professional life through sport are developed.

UMECIT has been characterized by being one of the favorite universities to become champions, both in the male and female branches in the university leagues, such as: those organized by the University Sports Association of Panama (ADEUPA), University Sports Association Private (ADEUPRI), Liga U, among others

We highlight our leadership in the training and promotion of football and futsal, generating spaces for healthy coexistence, comprehensive training processes, leadership, collaborative work and motor education.

Meet the coaches

Luis Thompson

Luis Antonio Thompson Chávez is the coach of the La Chorrera.

Football physical trainer with extensive experience in the training and development of youth and junior categories. From January 2022 to September 2025, he served as technical director of the U14 and U16 categories of San Francisco FC in La Chorrera, as well as physical trainer for the U18 and PROM categories, participating in high-level competitive and developmental processes.

Previously, he was a technical assistant at UDELAS FC in 2022, where he collaborated on the development of physical, technical, and tactical training plans. He also served as technical director at Sporting SM between 2021 and 2022, leading the planning of training sessions and managing youth teams in official and friendly matches.

He has an extensive career as a youth coach at San Francisco FC in La Chorrera, where he worked between 2011 and 2020 training players from 6 to 15 years old, in addition to organizing local and international sporting events and tournaments.

He has sports training and certifications endorsed by FEPAFUT and FIFA, including License D and License C as a national football coach, as well as courses in physical preparation, grassroots football, defensive methodology and training for youth coaches.

His professional approach is geared towards the integral development of the player, combining physical preparation, technical-tactical work and values training, with the aim of enhancing the sports performance and personal growth of the athletes.

 

Marco Rodríguez

Marco Antonio Rodríguez Aguilar is the coach of the Panama Headquarters.

With extensive experience in sports training, management, and development of youth categories in West Panama, he is the technical director of the West Panama Provincial Team and a national coach for the U14 category, certified by the Panamanian Football Federation (Fepafut).

Since 2015, he has been the founder and president of the Nuevo Chorrillo Soccer Academy, an institution dedicated to the comprehensive development of children and young people, with an active membership of over 190 players. He also serves as president of the Grassroots Soccer Commission for children's tournaments and local leagues, contributing to the growth of community soccer.

He holds Fepafut coaching licenses A, D, and C, and has participated as a coach in official Barça Academy camps in Panama. His track record includes multiple championships, runner-up finishes, and semifinal and final appearances in district, provincial, and national tournaments, excelling in the U12, U14, U16, and U18 categories.

Among his most relevant achievements are titles in corregimiento leagues, district championships of Arraiján and Panama Oeste, outstanding participations in national tournaments such as ATEVO Cup, Copa Talento, Starcup Internacional and Mundial del Barrio, as well as nominations for best technical director and best coach in national competitions.

His approach as a coach is geared towards the technical, tactical and formative development of players, promoting discipline, leadership and values through sport, with the goal of forming competitive athletes and upstanding citizens.
