UMECIT offers you the opportunity to belong to the basketball team, which can be accessed by any member of our university community whose purpose is to represent the values, colors and philosophy of the University, having the possibility of competing in university tournaments held by the University Sports Association of Panama (ADEUPA), Panabasket, international competitions, among others.
Being part of this selection will not only grant you physical benefits, but also helps you learn, increases self-esteem, increases the feeling of belonging and solidarity.

Meet the coaches
of basketball

Hasset Jiménez
Hasset Jiménez is the coach of the La Chorrera Headquarters and a former basketball player with experience in training and developing athletes. He currently serves as Head Coach of HardWork Basketball Academy, a position he has held since 2022, leading training programs focused on the technical and competitive growth of the players.
During 2022 he also served as Head Coach at Fastbreak Basketball Academy, and previously was Assistant Coach at Speed Basketball Academy in 2015, accumulating experience at different levels of sports training.
As a player, he was part of competitive clubs at the national level, including Club Atlético Nacional between 2020 and 2021, Club Panteras de Costa del Este during the 2018 and 2019 seasons, and Club Magnates de Parque Lefevre in 2011.
His experience as a coach and athlete allows him to provide a comprehensive view of basketball, focused on discipline, technical development and teamwork, contributing to the formation of players committed to their athletic growth.

Christian Arosemena
Christian Arosemena is the coach of the Panama Headquarters He is a basketball player and coach with a distinguished career at the intercollegiate, national youth team, and professional league levels in Panama. He began his athletic development at the Justo Arosemena Institute, where he was part of the basketball team between 2010 and 2014, winning multiple intercollegiate titles and representing the country internationally.
During his intercollegiate stage he obtained important results, including championships in under-15, under-17, under-18 tournaments and intercollegiate cups, as well as international participations in CODICADER Guatemala, JEDECAC Colombia and the National Intercollegiate, reaching podium positions and standing out as a competitive athlete.
He was part of the Panama Youth National Team, participating in regional events such as COCABA Under-16 in Honduras and international tournaments such as Big Four Lisbon and Copa Amistad Costa Rica, where he won the championship in 2016.
At the professional league level, he has competed in the Panamanian Basketball League (LPB) with teams such as Halcones de Calle P, Universitarios and Panteras de Costa del Este, reaching the semi-final stages and the championship title in the 2018 season with the Universitarios team.
His experience in different stages of national and international basketball allows him to contribute discipline, commitment and competitive vision, consolidating himself as a benchmark in the development of Panamanian basketball.
