Company Protection Officer Course

Course Description

This course provides knowledge to those who may be appointed to perform the duties and responsibilities of a Company Protection Officer.
The course, the content of which is set out in Annex II and which must comply with the Guidelines on the training and certification of company security officers, adopted at its 80th session by the Maritime Safety Committee of the International Maritime Organization and published in MSC/Circ. 1154, as well as model course 3.20 (Company Security Officer) and the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code).

  • Understand the training required for personnel who may be designated as Company Protection Officers.

  • Achieve the required level of competence that enables them to fulfill the functions and responsibilities of the Company Protection Officer as described in section A-11 of the ISPS Code.
  • Professionals in all disciplines related to the activities of the maritime cluster.
    University professionals at the bachelor's or higher technical level, in maritime, port, and related fields.
    Students and professionals from all areas who wish to expand their knowledge, skills, and abilities in the maritime port sector.
  • Valid identification (ID for Panamanians / Passport for foreigners).
  • Valid medical certificate (the certificate must be issued by a clinic authorized by the Panama Maritime Authority – AMP).

Module 1: Perform the duties and responsibilities of the Company Security Officer as described in section A-11 of the ISPS Code.

Hourly intensity: 2.0 theoretical hours.

Module 4: Ship Security Assessment and On-Site Inspections

Module 5: Protective Equipment
Hourly intensity: 1.5 theoretical hours.

Module 6: Ship Protection Plan
Hourly intensity: 2.5 theoretical hours.

Module 7: Threat Identification
Hourly intensity: 2.5 theoretical hours.

Module 8: Ship Protection Actions
Hourly intensity: 2.0 theoretical hours.

Module 9: Emergency Preparedness, Practices and Exercises
Hourly intensity: 1.5 theoretical/practical hours.

Module 10: Protection Administration
Hourly intensity: 1.0 theoretical hour.

Module 11: Protection Training
Hourly intensity: 1.0 theoretical hour.
