Course Description
This course is designed to facilitate training in the competency standards required by the IMO STCW Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978, as amended.
Emphasizing activities such as:
a. Identify the factors that influence student motivation.
b. Discuss individual learning needs within a group.
c. Demonstrate the effective use of communication skills.
d. Explain the communication process.
e. Explain the concept of bidirectionality of the message.
f. Explain the importance of verbal and non-verbal language in didactic communication.
g. Explain the behavior that an instructor should develop in class.
h. Make the necessary adjustments in teaching practice to address cultural differences.
To teach people the general instruction techniques required by the Convention on the Training, Certification and Watchkeeping of Seafarers (1978, as amended), to design, plan and develop a course in accordance with their acquired competencies, so that the teaching-learning process is satisfactory and effective for the certification of the approved course.
After learning the course, students should be able to meet the requirements specified in sections AI/6, AI/8 and the guidance contained in sections BI/6, BI/8 of the STCW Code.
- Plan and prepare effective teaching and instruction.
- Evaluate the teaching and learning process.
- Select, prepare and use teaching aids consistent with the objectives.
- Use validated material in the areas of knowledge to be taught.
- Develop and administer tests or evaluations to determine the progress of the class.
- Design a course program for your specialty.
- Professionals in all disciplines related to the activities of the maritime cluster.
- University professionals at the bachelor's or higher technical level in maritime, port, and related fields.
- Students and professionals from all areas who wish to expand their knowledge, skills, and abilities in the maritime and port sector.
- Valid identification (ID for Panamanians / Passport for foreigners).
- Valid medical certificate (the certificate must be issued by a clinic authorized by the Panama Maritime Authority – AMP).

Module 5: Produce a lesson plan related to the topic

Module 6: Assessment of teaching and learning
