Career Description

The Master's Degree in Maritime Business Administration and Logistics Management program seeks to train leaders with the ability to apply tools in the field of maritime business logistics. It also aims to train high-profile specialists in the areas of administration, business, operation, port management, foreign trade, insurance, transportation, logistics and security, areas in which they will be able to exercise skills such as: diagnose, direct and improve the different organizational systems of the maritime business.

Currently, the phenomenon of the consumer society and economic globalization has found in maritime transport the ideal solution for the transfer of goods and technologies. This scenario increases the relationship between market, manufacturer and producer, generating, as a consequence of being the most profitable, safe and efficient means, an increase in maritime transport and in turn in the economic sector that depends on it.
The training offered will enable the handling of methods and techniques of market research of the maritime company, developing and participating to generate welfare and socio-economic benefits in the sector under study.

The graduate of the Master’s Degree in Maritime Business Administration and Logistics Management can work in areas such as:

  • Management and administration of ports, shipping companies, chartering.
  • Cargo consolidation, ship supplying, advisory and consulting services to governmental and private institutions.
  • Maritime marketing, management and planning of shipping business.
  • Port security management.
  • Original and copy (collated) of the bachelor's degree diploma or its equivalent (in the case of foreigners, the document must be apostilled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of their respective country).
  • Copy of credits or grades of the bachelor’s degree or its equivalent (in case of being a foreigner, the documents must be apostilled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the respective country).
  • Two photocopies of the identity card (passport in case of being a foreigner).
  • Certificate of good physical health.
  • Two passport size photos.

  • Fill out the application form for admission to the program.
  • The permanence in the Master’s Degree in Maritime Business Administration and Logistics Management will depend solely and exclusively on the student's motivation, capacity and vision to obtain the chosen academic degree.
  • The term of permanence in the University will be a minimum of five (5) quarters.
  • The student must maintain a minimum academic index of 2.0 and/or a minimum grade of 81 (B).
  • Study in teams and on your own.
  • Respect the Disciplinary Regulations of the University.
  • Keeping your payments up to date.
  • Have an ethical and respectful conduct with the educational community.
  • Prove during the first year of studies that he/she is fluent in another language (recognized by UNESCO) that allows him/her to read updated scientific bibliography.
  • Attendance is compulsory for students in face-to-face and blended mode for at least 90% of the classes. In the case of virtual studies, attendance is regulated through constant interaction in all activities planned on the platform, including synchronous and asynchronous meetings, as well as the development of the student's autonomous work.

To obtain the title of Maritime Business Specialist is required:

  • To take and pass the credits and academic contents of the first two (2) four-month periods.
  • Maintain a cumulative academic index of not less than two (2.00) on a scale of three.
  • Maintain a grade point average equal or higher than 2.0 and have no subjects lower than 81.
  • Submit an exam or certificate of a second language recognized by UNESCO, updated (five years).
  • Certify the use of computer tools.
  • Elaborate, support and approve the degree work (monograph).
  • Payment of all fees (tuition, monthly fees, degree fees, etc.).

To obtain the Master’s Degree in Maritime Business Administration and Logistics Management is required:

  • Satisfactorily pass all the subjects of the master's study plan.
  • Maintain a cumulative and individual academic index per subject of 2.0.
  • Submit an exam or certificate of a second language recognized by UNESCO, updated (five years).
  • Submit an exam or certificate on the use of computer tools.
  • Complete the professional internship, write a report and present it to a jury.

  • Master the theoretical foundations that explain the nature, organization and operation of shipping companies in Panama and worldwide.
  • Recognize the legal framework that regulates the maritime sector in Panama and other latitudes of the periphery.
  • Identify the processes involved in distribution and transportation logistics for the subsequent development of supply chains.
  • Know the fundamentals of international trade for the study of the market that allows the competitive positioning of maritime businesses.
  • Identify the basic principles and functions of business administration.
  • Understand the elements that contemplate maritime and port security, in order to guarantee its operability.
  • Master the theoretical arguments that give reason to the basic principles and functions of business administration in order to respond to the demands of the shipping market.

Doing

  • Formulate business plans according to the requirements of the competitive market and the optimization of processes.
  • Apply the laws in force that regulate the shipping sector in Panama and the rest of the world.
  • Develop supply chains based on the development of processes related to distribution and transportation logistics.
  • Conduct market studies for international trade in the maritime sector.
  • Apply the basic principles and functions of management to the creation of new business strategies for the maritime sector.
  • Intervene in a timely manner to strengthen maritime and port security.
