Career Description

The Building Technician will have theoretical and practical knowledge in the area of construction and civil works. In addition, he/she will have the ability to prepare labor and equipment management budgets in construction projects, repairs, and maintenance under the supervision of engineering and architecture professionals.
The Technician's curriculum is designed so that the competencies developed by the student in the Building Technician career involve technical knowledge in the structure of buildings, evaluation and analysis of material, design and reading of plans, areas of topography, specialized software in the area of construction, legal and urban planning regulations, as well as calculations and dimensions of structures.

The areas of labor development of the graduate of the Building Technician are related to the construction sector, real estate, agricultural and livestock sectors, municipal and governmental entities and the development of entrepreneurship to run and create their own companies as independent contractors.

The career is complemented by the development of skills in the areas of calculation, writing, languages, general knowledge, use of technology, occupational health, and safety.

The Building Technician will be able to work in different sectors and companies in the construction, real estate, agricultural, commercial, NGO and governmental areas, as well as in the following areas:

  • Construction companies (project office, works, general construction procedures).
  • Municipalities, equipment and materials companies, local governments and ministries.
  • Contractors in the construction sector.
  • Non Governmental Organizations.
  • Consortiums of civil engineers or architects.

All applicants must submit the following documentation duly scanned from its original and sent to the promoter, to be hosted on the respective platform:

  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • High school credits or grades or their equivalent.
  • If you are a foreigner, the aforementioned documents must be apostilled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of your respective country. (In the event that the country does not have a consulate, you must carry out the process before the official authorities that validate it).
  • Identity document, identity card or passport in the case of foreigners and/or residing in Panama during their studies. (In case the student is a minor, the youth ID and the identity document of his guardian.)
  • A current passport-size photo
  • Fill out the admission form in electronic format with the promoter.

Note: Students enrolled in virtual modality whose nationality is different from Panamanian, must present a copy of their personal identity document from the country of origin (ID or the one that takes its place).

In case of not having originals of the previous documents, they must provide a certificate or its equivalent, issued by the national or foreign college legally recognized by the competent authority, where the following is stated: a) Name of the institution; b) Name and identification document number of the graduate; c) Name of the baccalaureate or its equivalent d) Degree awarded; e) Date of issuance of the title; f) High school credits or grades or their equivalent.

In the event that the documents are from abroad and are in a language other than Spanish, they must present a certified translation.

Given the profile of the curricular educational model "CYBERHUMANIST" of the university, the student must:

  • The permanence in the University will depend solely and exclusively on the student's motivation, capacity and vision to obtain the chosen academic degree.
  • Respect and comply with the regulations established by the statutes that regulate the relationship between the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology and the students of the Institution, taking into account the principles and values of the human being.
  • Keep payments up to date.
  • Attend at least 80% of the scheduled meetings in face-to-face and semi face-to-face mode. In case of prolonged absence, the student must present the justification for the absence. For studies under the virtual modality, attendance is regulated through constant interaction in all activities planned on the platform, including synchronous and asynchronous meetings, as well as the development of the student's autonomous work.

  • The student is responsible for the construction of their knowledge, willingness to work and collaborative learning, study in a team on their own, investigate, be self-taught and contribute to self-knowledge and self-motivation.
  • For those students who lose academic continuity (i.e. defer or withdraw) and wish to continue their studies or did not fulfill their degree requirement, they must apply for reinstatement to the current program approved by CTDA and must comply with the validation and homologation regulations.
  • The term of permanence at the University will be in accordance with the number of quarters that make up the academic program.
  • The student in cases of force majeure or fortuitous event must submit to the contingency plans or document that takes its place.

Index

  • Maintain a cumulative academic index of not less than one (1.0) on a scale of one to three (1 to 3).

  • In order to pass each subject, the participant must obtain a minimum grade of 71 on a scale of 1 to 100, which is equivalent to item C.

To obtain the title of Technician is required:

TECHNICAL

 INDEX

  • Maintain a cumulative academic index of not less than one (1.0) on a scale of one to three (1 to 3).

 NOTE:

  • In order to pass each subject, the participant must obtain a minimum grade of 71 on a scale of 1 to 100, which is equivalent to item C.

OTHER

  • Complete and pass one of the following requirements, corresponding to 112 hours, stipulated in the study plan:
    • Seminar
    • Professional practice
    • Diploma of specialization
  • Be in good standing with the institution (financial, academic, and library).


Knowing:

  • Obtains the knowledge and application techniques of basic and applied drawing to building, developing skills in the handling of instruments, procedures, types of lines, symbologies, etc.
  • Knows the elements that make up and are part of a building work.
  • Recognizes the requirements and regulations that are taken into account for the realization of a building work.
  • Understands the basic concepts of a building process, and understands the materials used as part of an integrated system.

Doing

  • Design and interpret shapes and dimensions of objects and parts.
  • Prepares and interprets general plans and diagrams.
  • Identify the deficiencies observed and explain the causes that occur in a building structure.
  • Designs adequate maintenance plans for buildings to prevent aging of structures in buildings and installations.
  • Applies quality controls and interprets results of concrete works in constructions
  • Develops creative and innovative response to changes in the construction sector
  • Apply their leadership skills in processes and decision making in the work of teams and construction management.

  • Is able to analyze, reason, justify facts and elaborate arguments to become a free being.
  • Ensures a responsible, critical and active participation in society and will contribute to the strengthening of democracy.
  • Generates heterogeneous projects with respect for diversity and respect for differences.
