Career Description

In our country we must emphasize logistics and multimodal transport, since they provide us with job opportunities and make the country grow economically. In this sense, logistics activities are a source of development due to the strategic position that Panama has in relation to world trade, since it has solid business and managerial spaces, which allow the exploitation of our resources, and which in turn demand a trained human resource.
Structural changes in international trade and the evolution of maritime, air and land transport have a direct impact on the growth of the country and the expansion of our terminals.

Thus, aware of the need for trained human resources, UMECIT presents the Bachelor's Degree in Logistics and Multimodal Transport, which is developed in a current context for changes in our environment, referring to the areas of knowledge, political, economic areas and social.

The graduate of the Bachelor of Logistics and Multimodal Transport program will be supported by skills and knowledge relevant to the logistics sector, which will give them the following characteristics:

  • Ability to create market and consumer studies both in the country and abroad.
  • Ease of design and implementation of strategies related to maritime transport.
  • It will be characterized by being a fully trained, creative, ethical, humanistic, social and highly competitive professional.
  • You will have great negotiation potential, which will allow you to use innovative merchandise distribution systems.

The areas of work in which the graduate of the Degree in Logistics and Multimodal Transport can practice are the following:

  • Goods and Services Distribution Companies.
  • Goods manufacturing industries.
  • Terminals of Ports, Airports, Railroad.
  • Special Economic Zones.
Applicants to enter the Technician and Bachelor's Degree in Logistics and Multimodal Transport offered by the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology "UMECIT"; must meet the following requirements:
  • Original and copy (collation) of high school diploma and credits approved by MEDUCA or its equivalent (in case of being a foreigner, the documents must be apostilled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the respective country and have the endorsement of the Ministry of Education of Panama).
  • Two photocopies of the identity card, in case of being a minor, birth certificate (if being a foreigner, passport).
  • Two passport-size photographs.
  • Certificate of good health.
  • Hold an interview with the selection team.
  • Fill out the application form for admission to the program.
  • The permanence in the Institution will depend solely and exclusively on the student, on his motivation, ability and vision to obtain the chosen academic degree. Taking into account that your general average or cumulative index in your career cannot be less than 1, on a scale of 1 to 3.
  • It is an essential requirement for a student to obtain the title or certificate corresponding to a study plan that has approved the subjects of this and that the academic index at the end of their studies is not less than 1.00. (Individual 1.5 and cumulative 1.75)
  • At the end of each academic period, the student will receive a final grade based on the work in class or in laboratories, if any; regular attendance, the tests carried out during the course, the final exam, which is compulsory.
  • The final qualification will be recorded in the official lists, in the vouchers that will be delivered to the students, in the academic record of each student.
  • The final grade may be of three kinds:
    • The normal promotion grade that corresponds to Outstanding (A), Good (B) and Regular (C).
    • The minimum grade for promotion will be C and it is the lowest grade with which a subject can be passed.
    • The grade of D or F does not give the right to promotion in the subject
Attendance
  • Attendance is compulsory for students under the face-to-face and blended learning modalities for at least 85% of the classes.
  • In the case of virtual studies, attendance is regulated by constant interaction in all activities planned on the platform, including synchronous and asynchronous meetings, as well as the development of the student's autonomous work.
  • The term of permanence in the University will be:
    • Twelve four-month periods minimum in Bachelor's degree
  • Given the characteristics of the institution, the student will be able to:
    • Study in teams and on your own.
    • Research in their areas of major importance.
    • Complement the knowledge they need.
    • Always be supported by the faculty.
To obtain the title of Technician in International Logistics, the following is required:
  • Pass all subjects in the study plan with a minimum grade of C or 71 points.
  • Maintain a cumulative academic index of not less than one (1.0) on a scale of one to three.
  • Maintain an average equal to or higher than 71 and have no subjects lower than 71.
  • Participate in the specialization or diploma seminar.
  • Be in good standing with the institution.
  • Approve the subjects of English and computer science.
To obtain the degree of Bachelor of Logistics and Multimodal Transport, the following is required:
  • Pass all the subjects included in the study plan. Maintain a cumulative academic index of not less than one (1.0) on a scale of one to three.
  • Maintain an average higher than 71 and have no subjects lower than 71.
  • Satisfactorily fulfill the supervised professional practice. Prepare and support the professional practice report.
  • Approve the subjects of English and computer science.
Complete and approve one of the following requirements:
  • Prepare, support and approve a project (degree work) in their area of knowledge.
  • Enroll and take the first semester of a specialized course to end your career.
  • Submit and pass a general knowledge test.
  • Be in good standing with the institution.
  • The graduate of the International Logistics Technician must be a professional in the area with the necessary knowledge and bases to opt for any of the specialties within International Transport.
  • This professional must have knowledge of the social, economic and cultural reality as well as the reality that the world is experiencing at an international level. In this sense, it is expected to develop in him sensitivity to national and world problems and a critical attitude towards the search for solutions that take into account the interest of the majority and the particular interests of minorities.
  • In terms of the specific knowledge and aptitudes of his career, this professional is expected to be able to study with certain scientific criteria the characteristics and particularities of the different markets, to be familiar with the analysis of uncontrollable environmental variables such as the dynamics economy, technology, legal regulations, political factors, competition, among others.
  • It is expected that you will be highly familiar with the management of the elements of the maritime business and its application in the development and execution of the development plans of the companies in the sector and the ability to detect opportunities and problems in the transport and distribution of cargo.
  • On the other hand, it is expected that this professional has the methodological tools to start researching international transport and is capable of designing and critically evaluating policies and strategies within the logistics sector.
  • Finally, the graduate of the Career in Logistics and Transportation from the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology must have management knowledge and skills, which will enable them to manage and direct material and human resources within an organization. In this sense, it is expected that he or she has knowledge of personnel administration, general accounting, business economics, cost prices, and budgeting.

This dynamism is manifested in a reduction in transaction costs, with new ways of exchanging goods and services; that turn the simple transaction into a sustainable relationship based on trust.
  • Design supply and distribution logistics systems.
  • You will manage different types of vessels and terminals that allow a better provision of the service.
  • You will manage import and export operational processes.
  • You will make decisions regarding the adequate flow of materials, through the selection of suppliers, means and modes of transport.
  • You will manage and administer financial resources.
  • Formulate marketing strategies for goods and services, based on the exchange between developed and developing countries.
  • You will develop market and consumer studies both in the country and abroad, given his skills and mastery of research methodologies for managing databases and software programs.
  • You will face international negotiation processes that allow you to manage modern distribution networks, in which you will stand out for your performance and management of logistics management.
  • You will design, manage and evaluate projects related to international transport.
  • Demonstrate a creative attitude, ethical, humanistic and social commitment. You will demonstrate positive leadership to achieve the objectives in the organizations where you work.
  • You will project a proactive behavior that boosts the positioning of companies in a globalized market, with competition and quality.
