Description

It is very common that, when analyzing the performance of athletes in training, either in training or in competitions, psychological abilities that determine their success or failure are easily identified.
However, when reviewing the time and dedication given to these skills in their daily planning, it is evident that it is very little or sometimes non-existent, by the coaches and the athlete himself.
In this way, the need arises to provide valid tools and practices of sports psychology, to the community of training sports to promote the good habit of training psychological skills in such a way that they can be included in their planning, to be controlled, evaluated and optimized. in favor of the sports performance of the young athlete.

General Objective

The general objective of the Course in Sports Psychology Tools for the Mental Training of Athletes in Training is to provide participants with concrete tools, derived from the applied branch of Sports Psychology, for training the mental abilities of athletes in formative stages.

The Course in Sports Psychology Tools for the Mental Training of Athletes in Training It is aimed at students from the first semester, technicians, technologists, Physical Culture professionals, soccer coaches, amateur coaches.

Module 1: 
Sport psychology and psychological characteristics of formative sport (intensity: 4 hours) In this module, the main psychological characteristics that make up sport in formative ages (6-18 years) such as development, family relationships and psycho-sports skills will be reviewed.

Module 2: 
Sports Psychology tools applied in formative sports (intensity: 4 hours) In this module, techniques and strategies specific to the applied branch of sport psychology will be described, with specific applications for the training of psychosports skills in formative ages.

The workshop presents scientific arguments based on the cognitive-behavioral approach of the applied branch of sports psychology, to justify the effectiveness of the tools that are presented for training the psychological skills of athletes in training. 

Said argumentation includes presentation of scientific theory, analysis of cases and evidence of recent research, in the following topics:

  • Contextualization of the applied branch of sport psychology and the cognitive-behavioral approach
  • Psychological peculiarities of formative sport
  • Psycho-sports techniques applied to training sports situations

Finally, the elaboration of a protocol by the student is proposed for the adaptation of the tools to real situations of the sports context. Said protocol will be the evaluation mechanism of the workshop, where the following competences are evidenced in the student:

  • Identifies the basic principles of the cognitive-behavioral approach in the applied branch of sport psychology
  • Applies the basic principles of sports psychology through specific tools, in specific situations of training sport
  • Prepare protocols with sports psychology techniques for their implementation in sports planning.

Interest in the topic. Preferably some connection to training sports in one of the following roles (coach, athlete, parent or guardian, managers and/or sports science professionals)
