Our University has been promoting this sport for more than 10 years, which is linking the university community, from the strengthening and enrichment of the values and philosophy of the University. 

Through these disciplines, activities aimed at consolidating professional life through sport are developed.

UMECIT has been characterized by being one of the favorite universities to become champions, both in the male and female branches in the university leagues, such as: those organized by the University Sports Association of Panama (ADEUPA), University Sports Association Private (ADEUPRI), Liga U, among others

We highlight our leadership in the training and promotion of football and futsal, generating spaces for healthy coexistence, comprehensive training processes, leadership, collaborative work and motor education.

  • Be a student, administrator or teacher at UMECIT
  • Have an updated and active accident policy (Applies only to students)
  • Administrative and teaching staff (must sign liability release document)
  • Be registered and attend training defined by location and discipline.

Meet the coaches

Marerlys Rodríguez

Marelys Rodríguez is a soccer coach and physical therapist in training, with extensive experience in injury prevention and rehabilitation within the sports field. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy at UMECIT and complements her training with studies in Physical Education and Personal Training. Her career as a coach has led her to work with children and adults, promoting their physical and athletic development, in addition to implementing conditioning and strengthening strategies to reduce the risk of injury.
She holds the National Football Coach D License awarded by the FEPAFUT (Federal Federation of Professional Football Coaches) and is certified in first aid, which allows her to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations. Her professional approach is based on the integration of her knowledge in physiotherapy and sports training to optimize athletes' performance and well-being. Her commitment to responsibility, proactivity, and adaptability make her a professional capable of contributing to the comprehensive development of those who train under her guidance.

Boris Boniek Abrego Bazan

Coach of the Santiago Headquarters. He is a prominent coach and former professional soccer player. He directed the Veraguas FC Soccer School and was coach of the Tigres de San Antonio Academy, where he achieved an undefeated championship in the Atalaya District League. He has also coordinated the Jaguares Verdes Soccer School and directed the Santiago Apóstol Under 23 team, champions in 2023. He has training licenses endorsed by the Panamanian Soccer Federation and has played professionally in the upper and intermediate divisions of Panama.

Ernesto Nay

Ernesto Nay

Coach of the David Headquarters. First corporal of the National Police of Panama, he has stood out in the sports field as a soccer coach certified with a Type D License by the Panamanian Soccer Federation. With a solid track record in training young soccer players, he has achieved important triumphs in various competitions. During 2012-2022, Nay led the Bugabita team to victory in the Bugaba District Tournament under-14 category and won championships in other minor categories, including the Ministry of Security Tournament. More recently, in 2023, he has led teams to reach prominent positions in the Divalá District League and the Inter Club League. His commitment to sports and youth is also reflected in his ability to teach and promote discipline among his players, which has made him a reference in the Chiriquí region.
